Small accidents can occur on a daily basis in various locations. These incidents may result from inadequate maintenance, manufacturing defects, or excessive haste. One prevalent mishap involves the breaking of a key, leading to it becoming lodged in the lock.
The most challenging aspect of this issue is that, especially with house keys, the resolution cannot be delayed. Prior to contacting a locksmith, attempt these techniques to extract a broken key from the lock without the need for extensive disassembly.
First Trick
A highly powerful magnet is all that’s required. If the key is lodged vertically, the removal process becomes quite straightforward.
Apply some lubricant on it, then take the magnet and place it on the key so that it can act. The key should stick to the magnet and come out easily.
Second Trick
Needle-nose pliers or scissors with slim tips are essential. Apply lubrication to the vicinity of the key, and then use the pliers or scissors to grip the protruding end of the key from the lock.
Try to gently pull out the key. Perform this movement gradually, without pulling hard: you risk pushing the key deeper into the lock.
If the key has broken in the lock but the door has remained open, you can try one of the following tricks.
Third Trick
When the key is trapped and the door is open, search for a key with an exceptionally thin tip. Insert one of the scissor tips from the opposite side (inside the house) until it makes contact with the key.
Push inward so that the key comes out completely. If you don’t get everything out, you can use pliers to pull it out completely.
Fourth Trick
This trick is similar to the previous one, but instead of scissors, we use another key.
By inserting it into the inside lock, the stuck key is pushed outward.
Fifth Trick
It gained widespread popularity on social media due to its remarkable effectiveness. For this method to work, the key should be positioned vertically. Heat a piece of silicone with a lighter until it melts, and promptly apply the molten silicone to the lock where the key is lodged.
Press firmly for a minute until the silicone cools down. Then pull back the silicone so that the key comes out. Do not pull too hard to prevent the silicone from tearing.
