The Duchess of Sussex attempted to open up about her feelings about abandoning her royal duties in 2020.
Meghan Markle has made a stunning declaration about her time as a working royal after marrying Prince Harry in 2018.
Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are no longer working royals after their shocking departure in 2020.
Following their decision to become financially independent and leave their responsibilities behind, the couple departed England for Los Angeles.
The reason for their choice to flee the spotlight was revealed during an interview between Meghan and Oprah Winfrey in 2021.
Meghan, a lady of colour, told Oprah about the discriminatory questions she received from a senior royal when she revealed she was pregnant with her son Archie.
According to Meghan, she was asked what color complexion her child will have.
Abhorrent tabloid headlines followed, reducing Meghan to her skin tone and implying that her statements regarding sᴜɪᴄɪᴅᴀʟ ideation were overblown.
Meghan recently caught up with her friend Oprah at the latter’s book club session at the Godmothers bookstore in Montecito, California.
Meghan spoke openly about how bookstores have brought her solace throughout her life.
She said: “For me, sneaking to New York five years ago was a really big deal.”
She then said something that some took to be a reference to how she felt after leaving the royal family.
Meghan added: “I was still so uncomfortable being out in the world.
“The safety of what I was craving, I knew I could find in a bookstore.”
Meghan then hailed the Godmothers bookstore’s owners, Rudolph Walsh and Victoria Jackson, for ‘holding the space for so many people to feel seen through the pages, either in laughter, pain, or feeling less alone.’
Shortly after the event, Meghan said: “I’ve got to make dinner for the kids.”
Meghan wasn’t the only high-profile guest in attendance; Ellen DeGeneres, Jane Lynch from Glee, and author Elizabeth Holmes all made an appearance.
Psychic Medium Laura Lynne Jackson described Meghan as a ‘light-filled speaker’ after her attendance at the bookclub.
According to Town & Country, Prince Harry was also present, and the duo arrived in a ‘darkened Range Rover’. They were pleased to meet other visitors and greeted them warmly.
Meghan and Harry began dating in 2016, and their relationship became public that year.
The couple announced their engagement in November 2017 and married in a televised ceremony at Windsor Castle in 2018.
Their son, Archie, was born in 2019.
Their daughter, Lilibet, joined the family in 2021.
