Donald Trump appoints Mel Gibson to new role days after he lost his home in LA wildfires

Donald Trump has appointed Mel Gibson a new post, but it appears that the Hollywood star learned of his appointment “at the same time” as social media.

His inauguration is scheduled for 20 January, following winning the election in November over Kamala Harris.

While some of his closest friends and family, including his daughter Ivanka, are taking a break from politics, Trump is still announcing who will support him during his presidency.

The 78-year-old isn’t known for being conventional, nor are some of his selected advisors.

Elon Musk, for example, has been tasked with leading Trump’s new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

But, in an unexpected change of events, Mel Gibson was assigned to a post.

Gibson, along with Jon Voight and Sylvester Stallone, would act as a ‘special ambassador’ to Hollywood, which Trump has previously described as a ‘troubled area’.

Writing on Truth Social, the president-elect said: “They will serve as Special Envoys to me for the purpose of bringing Hollywood, which has lost much business over the last four years to Foreign Countries, BACK – BIGGER, BETTER, AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE.

“These three very talented people will be my eyes and ears, and I will get done what they suggest.”

He added: “It will again be, like The United States of America itself, The Golden Age of Hollywood!”

However, it appears that the three actors were not consulted about the position before its announcement.

While Voight and Stallone have yet to comment, Gibson has stated that he found out ‘at the same time’ as it was announced online.

Speaking to Variety in a statement, he said: “Nevertheless, I heed the call.

“My duty as a citizen is to give any help and insight I can.”

Just days after the actor lost his house in the Los Angeles flames, Gibson added: “Any chance the position comes with an Ambassador’s residence?”

The actor was one of the thousands of people to have been affected by the LA fires, previously telling NewsNation’s Elizabeth Vargas Reports: “Obviously, it’s kind of devastating. It’s emotional. I was doing the Rogan podcast and [I was] kind of ill at ease while we were talking, because I knew my neighborhood was on fire, so I thought, I wonder if my place is still there.

“But when I got home, sure enough, it wasn’t there. I went home and I said to myself, well, at least I haven’t got any of those pesky plumbing problems anymore.

“I had a lot of personal things there that, you know, I can’t get back.”
