Today was Sarah’s birthday.
Well… she wasn’t my ex-girlfriend until about three hours ago.
My name is Michael. Despite being busy all morning, I managed to stop by a jewelry store and buy Sarah a diamond necklace as a surprise gift.
Around 1 p.m., I arrived at her apartment and quietly let myself in. I didn’t want to ruin the surprise by calling her.
I checked the kitchen. She wasn’t there.
As I got closer to the bedroom, I heard strange noises. My stomach dropped.
I slowly opened the door and found Sarah in bed with another man.
Heartbroken, I quietly backed out and sat on the couch in the living room, trying to process what I’d just seen.
Then suddenly, the front door burst open and several soldiers stormed inside.
The tallest soldier pointed at me.
“So you’re the man making my girlfriend ignore my calls?”
Immediately, I understood.
Sarah wasn’t cheating with just one man.
She was playing all of us.
Not wanting any part of what was about to happen, I quickly replied:
“No, sir. I’m just a driver. My boss is inside with your girlfriend. I’m only waiting to take him home when he’s done.”
The soldier glared at me, then marched straight into the bedroom with his koboko.
Moments later, he dragged Sarah and the other guy into the living room and made them kneel.
Sarah looked up and fr*ze when she saw me.
Trying not to laugh, I said:
“Boss, I’ll be waiting outside. When the soldier is finished with you, come and meet me in the car.”
Before the man could deny being my boss, I rushed out the door.
From outside, I took one quick look through the window and saw the soldiers enthusiastically dealing with the situation.
That was enough for me.
I jumped on a motorcycle and disappeared.
I looked at the diamond necklace in my pocket and smiled.
At least somebody got a birthday surprise that day.
It just wasn’t the person I bought it for.
