The Duke of Sussex has made a devastating confession about his father, King Charles III in a deeply emotional and revealing interview.
The heartbreaking revelation has left many royal followers stunned.
Speaking candidly from his home in California after losing a legal battle over his right to personal security while Prince Harry expressed sorrow, particularly in light of his father’s ongoing cancer diagnosis.
While the rift between Prince Harry and the royal family has long been the subject of public scrutiny, this most recent admission underscores the personal toll the dispute has taken.
Prince Harry’s emotional comments come on the heels of his failed legal challenge over the decision to downgrade his security arrangements after stepping back from royal duties in 2020.
He described the court’s ruling as ‘devastating,’ saying, according to The Guardian: “Not so much devastated with the loss [as] about the people behind the decision feeling as though this is OK.”
He said that this ruling has effectively barred him from safely bringing his wife, Meghan, and their children to visit the U.K.
“For the time being, it’s impossible for me to take my family back to the U.K. safely,” he explained. “I miss the U.K. And it’s really quite sad I won’t be able to show my children my homeland.”, Prince Harry told the BBC.
Prince Harry insisted that though he never asked King Charles to intervene directly, the monarch holds significant influence: “Ultimately, this whole thing could be resolved through him, not by intervening, but by stepping aside and allowing the experts to do what is necessary.”
Additionally, he questioned the impartiality of the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec), which oversees royal security, alleging that internal politics had influenced the decision-making process.
“If it is an expert body, then what is the royal household’s role there if it is not to influence and decide what they want?” he asked.
The prince also addressed broader issues of institutional power and historic mistreatment, referencing how ‘some people want history to repeat itself,’ though he declined to elaborate.
The Duke made the devastating confession: “He won’t speak to me because of the security stuff. But it would be nice to reconcile.”
His voice wavered with emotion as he added: “Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has.”
In spite of his strained relationship with the monarchy, Prince Harry said: “I would love reconciliation with my family… There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore.”
Despite the bitterness and heartbreak, Prince Harry emphasized that he has never abandoned his family, only the rigid institution surrounding them.
“Whether I have an official role or not is irrelevant to the threats, risk ,and impact… What really worries me is that security can be used to control members of the family.”
In a statement on the Sussexes’ website, he condemned the court’s decision as a dangerous precedent, writing: “My hands are tied in seeking legal recourse against the establishment… This all comes from the same institutions that preyed upon my mother… while at the same time protecting the very power that they should be holding accountable.”
