The Cost of Greed
A wealthy man was known for being extremely stingy.
On his deathbed, he called his wife over and said:
“Listen carefully. When I die, I want you to put all my money in the coffin with me. I want to take it with me to the afterlife.”
His wife, a kind and loyal woman, nodded.
“Alright… I promise.”
On the day of the funeral, just before the coffin was closed, the wife stepped forward and placed a small box inside.
A close friend standing nearby whispered in shock:
“Are you crazy?! Did you really put all that money in there with that miser?!”
The wife replied calmly:
“I made a promise. I’m a woman of my word.”
The friend stared at her:
“You mean… all of it? Every single dollar?”
The wife smiled softly and said:
“That’s right.”
She paused… then added:
“I gathered all his cash, deposited it into my bank account…
and wrote him a check.”
Another pause.
“If he can cash it in the afterlife… he’s welcome to spend it.” 😅
